Athlete Selection Criteria - 2024 World Deaf Cycling Championships
USA Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF) exercises its coordinating authority with each National Sport Organization (NSO) or National Sport Committee (NSC) to develop and approve procedures for selecting athletes to represent the United States in international competitions.
For purposes of competition, the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf does not classify athletes according to their degree of hearing loss. All people with a hearing loss of 55dB or greater in the better ear compete against one another. To be eligible, an athlete must have a hearing loss of 55 decibels (dB) or greater in the better ear (three frequency pure tone average at 500, 1000, and 2000 Hertz [Hz]).
USA Deaf Sports Federation is a full member of the ICSD and complies with the Deaflympics regulations prohibiting the use of hearing aids or cochlear implant aids during any sanctioned competitions.
This selection policy has been agreed upon by US Deaf Cycling Association and the USA Deaf Sports Federation (USADSF). It provides details regarding the process by which US Deaf Cycling Association will arrive at staff nominations. The US Deaf Cycling Association will submit these nominations to USADSF for consideration and final selection as a staff on the US Deaf Cycling Association roster for the 2024 World Deaf Cycling Championships (hereafter called the "Games" or "Event").
