Bulgaria Signs Agreement With ICSD to Host 2013 Deaflympics

Today the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf has signed a formal agreement with the Bulgarian government to host the 2013 Summer Deaflympics in Sofia. A formal announcement came from ICSD President Craig Crowley via Twitter (@ICSDPresident) earlier today and ICSD sent out a formal press release several hours later. In the press release, ICSD stated: “The host city contract for the Sofia 2013 Deaflympics was signed today, by the Bulgarian government, by the International Committee of Sports for the Deaf and by the Bulgarian Deaf Sports Federation.” The Sofia 2013 Deaflympics will open on 26 July 2013 and close on 4 August. Sofia first hosted the Deaflympics in 1993 and now joins Copenhagen as one of the only two cities in the world to have hosted two Deaflympics. In the e-mail message from ICSD CEO Mark Cooper, the United States learned that ICSD would be sending out information regarding the 2013 Deaflympics. ICSD has stated that hotel information and other logistics will be distributed to all member nations within the next several weeks. USADSF is hosting its Executive Board meeting this coming weekend at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. At the meeting, the Board will be making plans for the United States team to participate in the upcoming Summer Deaflympics.
