Martinez starts strong but loses in Greco-Roman

By Chris Kaftan Media Director SOFIA, Bulgaria - Just like his teammate the day before, Ariann Martinez started strong in his 60kg weight class Greco-Roman competition Tuesday. However, Martinez lost to Gabit Yeszhanov of Kazakhstan with 32 seconds left in the first round, 11-3. “His match was very close and he made several good offensive moves,” wrestling head coach Thad Ferguson said. “His one error was based on his moves while he was on the mat, but he did impressively for a first-timer [in Greco-Roman wrestling].” Andrew Patterson competes in the 66kg freestyle at 2 p.m. (7 a.m. ET) Thursday, and Martinez will wrestle in the 60kg freestyle at 2 p.m. Friday.
