USADSF Spotlight with Noah - Special Edition #3

Noah: Hello! Welcome to the USADSF Spotlight with Noah. I am Noah Valencia. The answer to the previous question of Trivia Thursday of “What city was the first to host three IOC (International Olympics Committee) sanctioned events, Olympics, Paralympics, and Deaflympics?” The answer is… Salt Lake City, Utah.

Image: On Noah’s left shoulder, there is a picture of Salt Lake City, Utah with white mountains overlooking the city.

Noah: SLC is an abbreviation for Salt Lake City, Utah. It hosted three major events. In 2002, the city hosted the Olympics. The logo of the event looked like this.

Image: The logo of Salt Lake City Olympics 2002 is shown on Noah’s left shoulder that looks like a colorful snowflake.

Noah: In the same year, 2002, they also hosted Paralympics in Salt Lake City (SLC). The logo looks like this.

Image: The logo of Salt Lake City Paralympics 2002 is shown on Noah's left shoulder. The logo contains three colors (red, blue, and green) and with its elements that looks like water.

Noah: Few years later, in 2007, USADSF hosted a Winter Deaflympics at Salt Lake City which was run by Dwight Benedict who appeared in the spotlight a few months ago. They discussed and determined that the logo looked like this.

The logo of 2007 Winter Deaflympics Salt Lake City is shown on Noah’s right side. The logo appears to look like a half side of a flame with five colors (red, orange, yellow, light blue and blue).

Noah: The Winter Deaflympics in 2007 wasn’t the first time that the USA decided to host a Winter Deaflympics. They hosted in 1975 at Lake Placid, New York.

Time went by and in 2007, they hosted the event again in Salt Lake City, Utah this time. That verified the only city to ever host three sanctioned events under the IOC (International Olympics Committee). What a huge honor!

Noah: Now, I will show you a few videos of the 2007 Winter Deaflympics that was hosted in Salt Lake City. Here it goes!

The video shows a person skiing and curving the poles, three people playing curling, a hockey player facing off, a snowboarder jumping off the slopes, and hockey players attempting to score a goal. The last video shows Team USA being introduced at the Opening Ceremony.

Noah: The answer to yesterday’s question is Salt Lake City, Utah. It is an unique place as it is the only place to ever host three sanctioned events! Until then, so long!
