20 Talented Girls Attend Deaf Elite Volleyball Camp

The 12th annual USA Deaf Elite Volleyball Camp welcomed 20 of the most talented deaf volleyball players in the nation to the Indiana School for the Deaf on June 11-16, 2011.  The campers were granted challenging expectations set by camp staff: Brian Bippus, Lynn Ray Boren, Jennifer Fry, Jessica Israel, Justine Jeter, and Ann Whited.  Camp counselors were Alison O’Hara and Sarah Tubert.

The daily schedule kept the campers busy with different sessions.  The morning session included group stations, individualized training, and a focus on specialized positions.  To maintain the ratio of 5 campers per staff, we split the girls into 4 groups and ran different drills.  In the afternoon session, the girls enjoyed competing in 2 on 2 and 4 on 4 games where they were able to have ball contact more frequently.  We also watched videotapes and analyzed players’ performances, tendencies, and discussed areas of improvement.  The evening session consisted of scrimmages against local high school teams and each other.  These games helped increase campers’ knowledge and performance on the court.
