Bio

Hoy attended the Ohio State School for the Deaf. He played Professional baseball in the majors for a period of 15 years and in addition played three years with teams of lesser calibre, and was noted as one of the greatest starts in the history of the game.

Etched in the records is the following legacy, which stands with the best of all time:

He stole 605 bases, including 82 in one major league season (1888) and 60, 57, 53, 52, 50 in other seasons.

He batted .318 in the National League in 1989 and .312 in 1894.

On June 19, 1889, playing in the outfield for Washington, he threw out three runners at home plate... A record which has never equalled.

He played in 1,688 games rapping out a total of 2,401 hits. In 1888 he led the National League in stolen bases with 82.

Hoy thre out the first ball to open the Cincinnati Reds' 1961 season... and also threw out the first ball before a nationally televised audience to start the game when the Reds played the Yankees during the 1961 World Series in October. He passed away Decemeber 15, 1961, at the age of 99!
