CANOAS, BRAZIL – In Men's Tennis, American Alfredo Galvez took a significant step in his preparation for the 2025 Summer Deaflympics with a strong third-place finish at the 6th Pan-American Games in Canonas, Brazil.
After earning the second seed in round-robin play, Galvez faced Ecuador’s Jean Carlos Santana in the quarterfinals, winning in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2, to advance to the semifinals.
In the semifinals, Galvez fell against the impressive 19-year-old Matteo Gobbi of Argentina in straight sets, 3-6, 3-6. This loss sent Galvez to the bronze medal match, where Galvez proceeded to best Canada's Alex L’allier Trejo in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2 to secure the bronze.
Galvez’s third-place finish also earns him 580 points in the world Deaf tennis ranking, temporarily elevating him from #17 to #10 in the World Deaf Rankings ahead of the 2025 Deaflympics.
