Titus has earned eight medals in 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships SIOUX FALLS, SD, August 12, 2011 -- Marcus Titus of the United States has won men’s World Deaf Championships in the 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 50m, 100m, and 200m breaststroke and has broke the World Deaf Championship records in the 50m freestyle and 50m butterfly. Titus has won five events and broke two deaf world records. (Bold indicates a new record.)

Titus set a new Deaf Championship Record time, in the men’s 50m butterfly on day three of the 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships. Titus’ time of 25.17 seconds was .35 seconds away from the world record of 24.82 seconds, set by Xu Jia Hui of China in 2009.
Titus, 25, of Tucson, Ariz., is a graduate of the University of Arizona. Titus has competed against his hearing peers in national events. Titus placed fourth in the 100m breaststroke at the 2010 ConocoPhillips National Championships and third in the same event in 2009. Titus also finished second in the 100m breaststroke at the 2009 U.S. Open.
The World Deaf Championship is organized by International sport’s governing body, Federation Internationale de Natation (FINA). The World Deaf Swimming Championships concludes on August 13. (press release written by Vitaliy Yusufov)
