Taekwondo

Taekwondo is a unique form of martial arts practiced across the globe. It originated in Korea hundreds of years ago. In Korean, "Tae" represents "foot," "leg," or "to step on"; "Kwon" represents "fist," or "fight"; and "Do" represents the "way" or "discipline." This sport became an official Olympic sport in the 2000 Sydney Games. Taekwondo made its debut as a demonstration sport at the Melbourne Deaflympics 2005 Games, but was not officially added to the Deaflympics until the 2009 Games with our first USA deaf athlete. All athletes are officially certified and qualified by the World Taekwondo Federation to compete at the international level.

The USADSF currently delegates activities related to the USA Deaf National Karate Team to the USA Deaf Martial Arts Committee. To become involved, please reach out to usamartialartsdeaf@gmail.com.
